Pancetta Ravioli

A couple of weeks ago I went over to E’s for a girly night of cooking, trying out my new ravioli cutter and looking at Rightmove. I arrived to a lovely cold bottle of white Rioja and a big board covered with ham, breadsticks and hummus. Once we had munched our way through all of that, it was time to get out her new pasta machine and come up with a recipe. Neither of us had found any we liked during the day, so just made it up as we went along… and it was good. Continue reading

Open House London

I meant to put these online quite a while ago, but only recently managed to develop and scan them in. They are a few shots taken walking around London on the Open House weekend earlier this year. Most of the … Continue reading

Meringues with Nectarine and Balsamic Glaze

We had a glut of egg-whites over the weekend, so making meringues was the obvious solution. We wanted to make them a bit more exciting though, so Alona sandwiched two meringues together with some cinnamon-spiced Mascarpone, and served them with sliced and chopped pieces of fresh, juicy nectarines. Glorious Globe Artichokes

We spotted these globe artichokes at Portobello market yesterday, after conducting some ‘research’ at Books for Cooks (it was genuine research, but did involve buying quite a few new books). They weren’t quite as fresh as they could be, and were a little brown around the edges, but looked nice enough once we had cut off the toughest outer leaves and trimmed the spines. Continue reading

Glastonbury

Things were a little muddy at Glastonbury this year, and a sign warning staff not to drive on the grass surrounded by a pool of mud seemed to capture things perfectly. But the mud didn’t stop anyone having a good time though, or at least, not for long. Continue reading

Clandestine Cakes

A few photos from yesterday’s gathering of the Clandestine Cake Club, which was utterly delicious, and offered a lovely opportunity to meet new people and chat about baking. Continue reading

Gourmet Glamping

What the Asda magazine suggests you should have when camping: cereal bars, dried fruit, tinned sausages and baked beans, spaghetti hoops, individual fruit jelly pots. What we had this weekend while camping with Emily and Chris near Battle in East … Continue reading

Kinetica Art Fair

We went to the Kinetica Art Fair last week, which was the perfect opportunity for a few interesting photos. Exit signs marked the entrance to the fair, while inside one installation sought out the electromagnetic radiation around it, and another repeatedly drew a heart and arrow logo on the wall at the turn of a lever. Continue reading

Herb Seedlings

In a desperate bid for fresh herbs, our flat is currently full of small pots with the first delicate shoots of rosemary, basil, thyme, chives, and parsley. Continue reading

Developing a Taste for Mushrooms: Part II

I haven’t given up on my promise to try and develop a taste for mushrooms. I have been eating them whenever I can, and ? generally ? enjoying them. So, with this success in mind, I decided to take the plunge and make a mushroom risotto last night. Continue reading
